Feb. 25, 2023

 A short but busy week!

On Wednesday we saw Alice in Wonderland!  The students enjoyed walking to Westview and the play.

They wanted their picture taken with the two Alices!

100 Day was a fun day.  We had a primary assembly, students brought in and shared their 100 day collections which as you can see were original and creative.  Then we also completed our big 100 math projects focusing on money, number patterns (counting to 100 by 10's, 5's, 2's, 25's ) and their basic facts.  We finished our art projects of what they think they will look like when they are 100 years old.  This group continues to amaze me as they are all so innovative!  These are up in the hallway and you will need to guess ?? which one is your child! During Family Reading on Friday you can look and guess.

Fairview's Book Fair is next week,  today the children made their wish lists and our shopping day will be on Wednesday.  The Fair is also open afterschool - Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday until 3:00 pm. And don't forget! Even if you can't join us in the school, you can experience the joy of our Book Fair online by visiting our Virtual Book Fair Extension on the same dates! https://virtualbookfairs.scholastic.ca/pages/5175369

Our skating field trip is now booked so sign up on the parent portal, drivers are needed.  Please let me know even if you are planning on driving your child only (that way when I'm organizing the cars I can plan accordingly). If you need driver's abstracts or volunteer forms they are available at the office or just email me and I will send them home in your child's planner.

Feb. 17/23

Div. 11 had a fun valentine's celebration, it was noisy but exciting to hear all the students reading and thanking their classmates for the cards.  Thanks to Nigel, Sukhtej, Dominic, Cooper, Iris and Blakely for bringing very yummy snacks.

Agenda for next week - no spelling due to the fact it is only a 3 day week!  Monday is a holiday, Tuesday a Pro D. so there is no school for students.

Wednesday, Feb. 22. Please wear pink!!  It will a very active day (please ensure your children are well rested if possible!). We have our Kindness Parade after recess and then we will have lunch and walk to Westview for our Alice in Wonderland field trip.  It will be great that we will all be in pink for both events.

Thursday, Feb. 23 - Our 100 Day of School, I am asking that all students make some kind of 100 Day collections.  If you need paper please let me know, these collections should be sent to school on Feb. 23rd and (loose collections) will go home that day too.  Encourage your child to be creative and use their imaginations!

Feb. 24 - March 1 - Fairview's Scholastic Book Fair, information has gone out on the parent portal.  Parent volunteers are needed for the book fair so if you could help out please email myself or Mrs. Holmes. Since our library is hosting this special book fair I will not be sending home a February or March Scholastic order forms.

Feb. 10/23

Dissecting Owl Pellets on Thursday was a huge success.  All the students were so excited and engaged!

We measured and described the pellets before we started dissecting!  Many thought they were gross/dirty.

Now they are loving it and not wanting to stop!

These two scientists found the first skull!
These owls were eating beetles, we found several wings!

It has been a busy week, every child has been working on writing and illustrating.their owl book.   Hopefully these will be finished next week and can be shared during Family Reading on Friday.  We have made a little booklet for our owl pellets which we'll also finish next week. With our big buddies we have been working on our 'We Have A Dream' project.
