Jan. 27/23

Our Field trip to Garibaldi, YES CHEF!

Yes Chef! turned out to be a great field trip!  Thanks to all parents for driving, your help was really appreciated!  For future if you plan to come and just drive your own child that's great, but if possible please let me know ahead of the field trip so that I can plan accordingly.  Some parents take off work to ensure we have enough drivers, so if we have enough spots I'd like to give those parents the choice of coming or not.  Thank you for your understanding.  I am looking into booking skating and will let you know once we have a date.

Spelling starts next Monday.  There will be a letter explaining our program, and your child will be writing their words in their planner.  Your support will be needed and appreciated, the objective of this program is to increase the students phonetic knowledge, rules of our English language and also learn the expecations of regular weekly lessons and expectations.

During explorations the students have been using unified to measure and compare different kinds of owls.

February (which unbelievably starts next week!)  is always a busy month and 2023 is no exception.

Flashlights for assembly Feb. 1st.  We will also do flashlight reading that day as the students really enjoyed it in November.

Jan. 20th

Tomorrow is a Pro D day so there is no school for students.

I am coaching girls basketball this term, so Tuesday's after school if you are running late I will take your child to the office to wait.  Also Thursday morning before school we have a practice, so I may be a couple minutes late opening the door to greet students.

Wednesday, Jan. 25th - Thanks to those parents who have volunteered to drive (we do have enough),  I will be sending an email tomorrow to those drivers with all the specific details.  Just a reminder that we will be late getting back to the school 2:35/2:40.

Flashlights - for February 1st assembly. If you want to send them in ahead of time please have them labelled with your child's name.

We have been focusing on rounding in Math, this is a difficult for many students but by Friday most seem to understand, it would be great for you to review this concept at home.

Thanks to Lila B's mom for also sending in some play dough.  The students are loving the play dough and using it daily.  They often do "Nailed it!"  like the cake decorating t.v. show.

January 13/23

We finished our place value snow people!

Div. 11 set goals for 2023 and also wrote three ways  to hopefully achieve those goals!.

Thank You's!

Thanks to Rhett and Cooper's Moms for making us play dough.  We'll be using it at our next Exploration Centres.  Thanks to Rhett's mom for also preparing our Scholastic catalogues.

Also thanks to Kaylee's family for sending in a large package of individual play dough, the students have been loving it.

Reminders

Please go onto the parent portal to sign up for our field trip to Garibaldi Secondary for our Yes Chef! class. The cost is $3.00 and can be paid online on the portal or by cash (please put in a ziplock with your child's name on it).  Also all parent drivers abstracts and volunteer forms should be in as soon as possible.  On Wednesday I'll will be confirming all our drivers to ensure we have enough for the field trip.

If possible all children should be reading daily, I know life is often hectic but this time is so valuable and time well spent!

Students will be bringing home a PAC HAPPENINGS sheet on Monday, but here is also a copy of this information.  Everything that you do to help support our PAC makes a difference!  Thanks.

January 6/23

Div. 11 seemed to really enjoy the Owl Presentation.  They were excited to learn all about raptors and see the two live birds.   Please ask your child what they learned and what they enjoyed most.  Please pay the $5.00 for this presentation either online or send in cash in a labelled ziplock. Thanks.

The presentor explained and demonstrated the difference in the wings of a raptor that flies during the day compared to a night hunter.

This is Cricket.

Meet Flinger, a Roadside Hawk.

In math this week we have played New Years games reviewing odd and even numbers, adding numbers that equal 20 or 23 and reviewing place value.  Each of the students is making a place value snow person, describing their #, comparing it to others, etc.   I plan to make a bulletin board of these and will take a picture to post.

I am hoping that we can do play dough as an exploration station.  If you are able to volunteer to make a batch of play dough (whatever colour you'd like) for the class that would be really appreciated.  Please email and let me know.  Thank you in advance.

Just a reminder to all families that you should be able to access your child's Raz Kids account by following the link on this blog or if that doesn't work my teacher name is srowledgetoscani   If you have any difficulties please contact me. Unfortunately Epic only works during school hours but if your child was home sick then you could access it using  EPIC CLASS CODE RVI9399

After we finish our Owl unit we will be moving into our nutrition and human body unit.  We have the field trip, 'Yes, Chef! Interactive Culinary Experience' to Garibaldi high school planned for Wednesday, Jan. 25 in the afternoon.  The students will be active participants, really chefs! This will be up on the portal soon and we will need parent drivers.

School is Out for SUMMER!!

We had a very busy, but fun last week of school.  Our teddy bear picnic was cut short due to our long assembly but we continued it Thursday ...
