April 21/23

Book walks are always really enjoyed by all students.  We started our Nutrition unit this week, and this was their first chance to look at our theme books.

Happy Earth Day tomorrow, please take this opportunity to discuss with your child what they have learned and ways they can help save our precious planet.  We started a special  research project in the library with Mrs. Holmes.  So far we have been learning how to do take notes when we are reading texts. We are focusing on plastics in our oceans.  This weekend the students have homework, they need to make a list of  everything plastic that they encounter this weekend.  Please return on this list on Monday.

You'll notice that the spelling lessons are getting harder.  It's important that your children review and practise the weekly pattern, I realize it is a challenge, (eg. all the different ways to make a long a sound - English is not easy!).

Next week we will be starting new Mystery Bags for our home reading.  Students should be bringing their book bags to school daily.

Thursday, May 4th - Assembly which we are presenting our body songs, Tuesday, May 9th - Save On Foods, Wednesday, May 17- Skating - Please sign up on the parent portal for our upcoming field trips and to pay for your child's memory book.  If everyone can sign up as soon as possible and please also indicate if you can volunteer or drive for the field trip (even if you only want to drive your own child).

Zoob has been a very engaging Exploration station.   Students have really used their imaginations!  Look at some of their creations.

A hockey arena!

A purse!

A backpack!

A ball!

April 14/23

It was great to meet with all of you for conferences last week.  I am so impressed with all your children's progress.  Hope you all had a fun Easter long weekend! Report cards will be coming home on Monday.

We are wrapping up our body unit, this week we have been learning about the brain and reviewing the different organs.  These 4 worked hard to put together our brain puzzle!

We will be presenting our Reader's Workshop books (the theme books with the post-its) this coming week so have your child practice their books as much as possible.  Please also practise the body songs in the Poetry duo-tang as we will be presenting them at the May assembly.  Parents are welcome to come to this assembly on May 4th at 10:45.

This morning Mrs. Wood came to our class and shared a story about kindness, courage, making the right choices and always using your 'wise voice'!

Fairview's Cross Country is starting next week.  If your child is interested tell them to ask me for a form.  I am one of the coaches so every Tuesday and Thursday, I will need to be out for practices by 2:25.  If you are running late your child will be in the office.

Important Dates to mark on your calendars:

Thursday, May 4th - Assembly 10:45 Div. 11& 12 Presenting Body Songs

Tuesday, May 9th - Walking field trip to Save-On Foods

Wednesday, May 17th at 12:45  Skating at Pitt Meadows.

March 31/23

Conferences are next Wednesday, April 5 and Thursday, April 6th.  If you haven't signed up yet please do so asap on the parent portal.  Please remember these conferences are a total of 30 minutes, you should arrive at the time you sign up for.  The first 15 minutes your child will show their work in the hall and the next 15 mins will be with me and your child sharing and celebrating their learning plus setting goals for next term.  Please let me know if these dates do not work for your family and we can make other arrangements. Also please be sure to let me know if you are expecting your conference to be on zoom as I need to book these ones differently to avoid overlap.  ***Wednesday is an 11:30 dismissal and there is no school Thursday except for conferences.

Spelling this week is a review of all the short vowels, because of this the quiz will not be until Tuesday next week.  The students wrote 1/2 the words in their planners on Monday and will write the rest of them next Monday.  Students that have not finished this week's lesson should have brought home their spelling duo tang today.

This week we learned about the intestines and the kidneys.  Ask your child about the experiments we have done to demonstrate the functions of these organs. Please practice the body songs in the Poetry book as we will be presenting them at the May assembly.  Also this week we have an Easter activity sheet, which should be completed over the next two weekends.

Freezies will be sold every Friday after school but this next week they will be on Wednesday (due to our early dismissal). The Gr. 6/7 are fundraising for their field trip to Cultus Lake.

Friday, April 7th - Good Friday (no school) and Monday, April 10th - Easter Monday (no school)

School is Out for SUMMER!!
