School is Out for SUMMER!!

We had a very busy, but fun last week of school.  Our teddy bear picnic was cut short due to our long assembly but we continued it Thursday morning in the classroom!  Thanks again to Kayden, Lila, Sukhtej, Cai, Selena and Layla's families for bringing in our great snacks and treats!  Thank you to Iris' family for the delicious chocolate chip banana muffins (which is in your new cookbook!).  Hope you enjoy and try lots of these new recipes, I know I sure plan to!

I hope you take the time to go through your child's memory book, it was fun listening to them as they went through their binders remembering the year!  I want to thank you all for sharing your children with me these past ten months, I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know each of them, laughing and learning with them and watching them grow and mature.  Div 11 had a great year, it was so nice to be able to go on field trips again and I wanted to thank all of you for making this possible by driving and volunteering!  Thank you also for all the generous and thoughtful gifts!

On Monday I sent home an information sheet about reading loss over the summer.  I would highly suggest everyone joins the FV Library Summer Reading Program, it adds extra incentive for children to read!  Remember it's important to keep it fun and enjoyable!

Please note:  No need to buy SCHOOL SUPPLIES for next year.  Instead,  you just make a payment once you meet your new teacher.

Hope you all have a fantastic summer filled with adventure, safe travels and lots of fun!

June 16/23

All Div. 11 Scientists have now been completed, everyone did such a great job!  Our last two weeks included some very interesting experiments Lilah tested iodine in salt, Sukhtej's paper towel stayed dry when submerged in water, Rhett made water rise in a jar with a candle, Layla did fireworks in water, Eva's was similar but also demonstrated what food colouring will do if just in oil, and Ethan picked up styrofoam balls wrapped in tin foil with static electrictiy.

These are the posters that Div. 11 & 12 created to Protect Our Oceans.  This was the final activity to conclude our special environment project with Mrs. Holmes focusing on the negative effects plastic has on our oceans.

Thanks to all the parents who drove for bowling.
The students all seemed to really enjoy this field trip.
We have been spoiled this week with some yummy treats.
Blakely's family made pizzelles and August's brought in Romaine pancakes.  Thanks so much they were enjoyed by everyone.

A huge thank you to Rhett and Kaylee's mom for helping the students make cookies.  They enjoyed doing this, an excellent learning opportunity.  Kaylee and her mom then made more cookies at home so we'd have more, some for Father's Day and for us to eat.  These 'Dad's Cookies' are for Father's Day but can be eaten earlier so they are fresher!  I will include the Dad's Cookie recipe in our class cookbook!

Another big thank you is to Cooper's mom who organized our cookbook and then to Lila's mom for doing lots of photocopying on Thursday.  We still need to bind the books so if anyone is available to do this next week please let me know. With so much already done it shouldn't take too long to put the books together and then to bind.  This probably is best done at school as you need the binding machine.

Reminders for next week:  (Hopefully I haven't forgotten anything!)

June 9/23

As we are all feeling the craziness of June, I thought the best way to do this is in date order!       Please continue to look in your homes for classroom books.  Every year I get a pile of books from students (sometimes it's even the next year!), it's amazing how they get stuck under beds, behind couches etc.

Big thank you to those parents who have already washed some of our bins of manipulative and to help with our cooking.  I am so appreciative of your help with this!  I will email those helping with cooking directly with details.

Recipes still can be handed in on Monday, June 12.  Thanks to Kaylee, Cooper and Lila's moms for offering to help put these together.

Bowling is on Wednesday, June 14, if the children wear white they really look cool in the disco lights!    Thanks so much to our drivers:  Selena's mom, August's dad, Lila's mom, Dominic's dad and Kaylee's mom.  Booster seats are needed.

This week Div. 11 and Div. 3 (our big buddies!) made sponge bombs!  Thursday, June 15, for buddies we have planned some relays, games and of course a water fight!  Expect your children to come home a little wet!  Feel free to send in towel that day if you want.

It's June and it is going to be a busy one!

Bocce Ball!

Div. 11 loves Free Choice Friday! Some love to be outside while others like to play inside.

Our Scientists have continued to 'inspire' us all.  Luciano demonstrated how potatoes are a conductor of electricity, Cooper made pepper run away from soap, Cai showed us food colouring fireworks, Iris demonstrated what would happen if you put oranges into water (one was peeled, one was not), and Dominic made a 'Rainbow Jar'.  This week we learned a lot about density (thanks to Dominic's dad who came in to help explain this further!)
